Lateraling With an Exit
I’m currently a first year analyst looking to lateral. Long story short is I’m not a fan of our group’s culture, but the problem is I already have a 2025 exit. My inclination is to stick it out, but my question is if the benefits of hypothetically going to a better group outweigh the costs of having to explain the lateral and convincing other firms to let me stay on for 1.5 years max.
You would never tell the firm you’re lateralling to that you would stay on for 1.5 yrs max

So important you gotta say it twice
Was a glitch in wso lol can guarantee i didnt type it out twice
Do it if you’re certain the new group has better culture, etc.
If you wake up every morning dreading going to work and actually think it brings you down as a person, you should probably lateral. If it just sucks but isn’t terrible, suck it up (assuming the 2025 exit is high quality)
Assuming you'd tell the firm you are exiting to ahead of time? Genuinely curious.
More like does a reputable PE firm want their future associates switching from a tough M&A group to DCM so they can chill … don’t think so
