Advice on Lateraling
I know the lateral market is pretty bad right now but for context I'm at a big 5 in Canada (not based out of Toronto) in a coverage group and would like to lateral ideally to another big 5 or BB in Toronto with better deal flow/switch industry groups. I have just started - Should I wait till the 1-year mark to lateral or keep looking for opportunities as and when they come? Also how easy is it to lateral?

To be honest with you I’d try and stick it out at the Big five and lateral to the US as an associate. They like associates more than analysts because they know you’ll stick it out in the long haul. For context, analysts get two year contracts in the US. Associates you’ll be there for four years.
I'm not a Canadian citizen, so I can't work in US under TN Visa and H1-B is almost impossible as a non-Canadian citizen. So unless I do masters in the USA, Canada unfortunately is the only option for me.
I really think you should stick it out then. For starters, why do you want to lateral? Is it that bad?
