Leaving banking after 11 months.
I am starting to realize I don’t like banking and the hours are making mental health unbearable. I want to go to a start up or a company with more WLB and an upbeat, collaborative environment. Am I making a mistake by leaving banking after 11 months? Would this going to be a blemish on my resume forever?
Many 1st year analysts have left before that so no it's not unusual. In terms of timing, I think this is rather the best time to leave banking just because right now so many people are talking about or have become aware of the crazy hours in banking thanks to the GS SF story - companies and recruiters outside of IB/PE space will be much more understanding
Nope 1 year is fine. Tbh I don’t think many people take much after a year. You “learn” most of the stuff within 6-9 months anyway. Just be open and say learning really slowed down and you realized you didn’t like deals as much as you thought
Why not Jusr wait for full year bonus
Good for you. Banking is an industry that will be the last to get with the times
