Leerink Partners Culture Post New Hires & SVB Fallout
Hey guys, I know there are a few posts on this, but wanted to hear a little bit more about Leerink's Biopharma culture especially given that they have seen so much change over the past few yrs. How is culture with Tom Davidson, all the new hires, and even post SVB?
Based on the most helpful WSO content, Leerink Partners (formerly SVB Leerink) has undergone significant changes in recent years, including a rebranding back to its original name and an expansion into various verticals like TMT, LevFin, and ECM. The firm has also made notable hires, including MDs from Jefferies, Barclays, and even the Global Head of Internet TMT at Goldman Sachs. These moves suggest a focus on growth and diversification beyond its traditional healthcare and biopharma expertise.
Regarding culture, while specific details about Tom Davidson's leadership or the exact post-SVB fallout dynamics aren't explicitly outlined, the firm's growth trajectory and focus on healthcare and life sciences make it a strong platform for professionals interested in these sectors. The addition of new verticals and talent likely brings fresh perspectives, but it may also create some transitional challenges as the firm integrates these changes.
If you're considering Leerink, it seems to be a top-end shop for healthcare and biopharma, with strong potential for future PE, GE, or VC recruiting, particularly in life sciences. However, the exact cultural dynamics post-SVB and with the new hires might require further firsthand insights from current employees or recent alumni.

hahahahahaha
Pls explain? What does this mean
Culture is collaborative and entrepreneurial. People are very driven to build out the M&A franchise.
Interesting. No sweatshop hours with bigger deals coming in?
The coverage team essentially acts as the second M&A team, so the M&A juniors get more support than they would at other banks.
bump
I was an associate at the firm who just left. I will tell you everything negative you read about it the firm is true to this day. The culture is very toxic and not at all collaborative. I heard that it was much worse in the Boston office specifically with one VP who makes the job unbearable. It’s beyond a sweatshop with analyst and others working crazy hours, with unrealistic timelines, and work product is expected to be perfect with no mistakes. Not winning any M&A mandates despite the large build out. M&A team is just doing pitch work. I would seriously avoid at all cost. Not worth it IMO and if you have other offers, take those instead.
Were you on the biopharma team?
Only heard this negativity on hcs. Never on biopharma, so kind of surprising tbh
