LinkedIn Message To Undergrad Alum -- Help With Formatting?

I found an alumni on LinkedIn who works in recruiting/HR at a firm I'm directly in contact with (associate put my resume in, applied online, met a few analysts, etc). Could anyone help me tailor my message to him? My school is the epitome of a non-target so I really need to make a great first impression here -- I could use the help.

"Hi Joe, My name is B. Spooner and I'm an alumni from NSU who found your profile while researching Evercore. I have learned a lot about your firm through my conversations with xx and xx and would love to connect with you to learn more about the hiring process. Best, B. Spooner"

Is that too direct? I don't want him to open the message and immediately see that I'm connecting to get help with recruitment.

Not necessarily. Depends on the person. Some people will not reply regardless of what you say to them in the message, but then there's also people who are willing to help no matter how you word your message.
