Living/Eating/Nightlife Rec's for NYC?

Been living in LA my whole life, moving to NYC in about a year for IB, would love to get some recommendations on living, good restaurants, good areas, good bars/clubs, anything you'd like to share that you recommend in NYC really.

For context, I will be working in Tribeca area and would like a short-ish commute to work if possible.

Thanks guys!

Hopefully this isn’t way too much information, but I think commuting to TriBeCa can be tricky and your housing decision can really make or break your NYC experience.

TriBeCa is very upscale and fairly residential except for a few honestly very cute restaurants (generalization). Unless you plan to both 1) make money hand over fist in your first year and 2) spend the VAST majority of that on rent, you may want to consider a nearby neighborhood for living. TriBeCa is an incredibly painful commute IMO if you’re not at the point in your career where you can take cabs/Ubers to the office every day, so try to find the farthest walking distance apartment you can bare for a start.

You may consider West/Greenwich village (quaint during the day and very fun at night), SoHo (generally pretentious), or the Financial District (if you actually value your living conditions).

Depending on where you end up, your local nightlife will include world class nightclubs, hanging out with people who think they’re better than you, or absolutely nothing , respectively.

Personally I’d recommend West/Greenwich area for most fun on the weekends although you’ll have a longer walk. SoHo is the most expensive option outside of living in TriBeCa itself and depends entirely if you fit the vibe there. Financial District will offer you a very nice apartment for your money but virtually no nightlife beyond Stone Street (still very fun, just the ‘only show in town’ for that area) and Seaport which has taken a hit since Covid.

Best of luck with the move!
