London assessments are crazy (semi-rant)
First time recruiting for offcycle/FT for London as a recent grad and these assessments making me crazy.
Assessment at bank 1:
Feedback (aside from a few strong strengths): you might get too focused on details and too by the book/rules so might result in inefficiency at times. So learn to separate what is required or not, and be okay skipping the unnecessary/inefficient tasks even when sometimes they are "by the rules".
So naturally, I took the feedback and answered accordingly at a different bank
Assessment at bank 2:
Feedback: All other strengths (significantly above average), then reliability is zero because I "do not pay much attention to detail" (and this was based on strongly disagee to strongly agree scale whereas at the other bank, it was scenario based).
I still did great in quant/IQ test, but personality wise (that too agree disagree crap, got dinged on the off-cycle).
It's a lot humanly (and "easy") in the US - like it takes work, but you reach out, you talk to people, get a referral, interview with humans - not random ass personality tests with no humans in sight.
Did undergrad in the US, but MFin somewhere else. And can't work directly in the US cause of visa requirements. So they told me to apply to London (no sponsorship required there for a few years at least).
And cause of the first feedback at a bank with no-contact/referral, I got dinged because of the assessment at the second bank - for which I actually had interviewed in the US and had gotten a referral to the London office cause they really liked me.
FML.
Thats why JPM / GS >>>>
that being said most SJTs are piss easy, you just have to put a mask on and think about 'what they want you say' vs 'what you believe'. Most people fail on IQ/Quant so you can definitely improve
What is different about JPM and GS? These were both EBs.
Thanks that's what I'll do from now on. I was about to do the same, but then in the beginning it said don't think too much and answer naturally, so I answered specifically with the first feedback in mind. The irony: feedback went from too attentive to unrealiable, haha.
Any other advice regarding London?
(Gs/jpm) They do not include online tests in their processes.
For London things are generally the same as anywhere else, except HVs are slightly more prominent and networking is less important
Am i crazy or does this sound pretty similar to the oxford/cambridge tests? am in US but took very similar tests for college admission to those 2
Def not like those lol
I don't know what they are so can't say lol. I'm just deeply hoping my referral is still valid for any FT spots and doesn't get wasted - cause I think the site said if you do the assessment/hirevue once, you won't have to do it again for a year or sth for other positions as well.
TSA for Econ&Management?
Nah that was a bit more like US standardised tests, focuses more on grammar, problem solving etc.
Just marry an American at this point.
That option is not on the table.
The tests I don't mind so much, it's the HireVues that I fucking hate.
