London or Houston for energy?

Hi everyone,

I’m aspiring to become an Oil & Gas banker, specifically focusing on Southeast Asian (SEA) assets. From my research, it seems only a few banks in Singapore (e.g., Jefferies, Standard Chartered) maintain strong, dedicated Energy teams.

I'm considering gaining experience in an overseas office first. A friend in Houston IB suggested that London might be a better fit for "global" exposure. His reasoning was that while Houston has massive deal flow, it is heavily skewed toward US domestic unconventional plays. He mentioned that London covers the North Sea and Africa, but also touches on APAC deals occasionally.

Is this accurate? For someone who eventually wants to cover SEA/Global energy assets, would London provide a better strategic foundation than Houston?
