London SA am I too old?

Hi guys,

I'm EU citizen (think Eastern Europe) and have an offer for master on target in the UK. Currently, I have 2 gap years after my Bachelor (EU non-target). Unfortunately, due to personal reasons I have to defer my master for the next year. Then I will have nearly 3 years of experience - nearly 2 years of internships in decent brands (M&A, ER, Management Consulting) and nearly 1 year of experience as an IB analyst or Business Analyst Intern/ACI in MBB in EU (think Eastern Europe). Do you think it will be too late to apply for SA then, that is will I be too old? And before you ask why not FT Analyst after Master I think it will be hard to get an offer for FT without SA in London.

Thanks a lot for your advice!

Haven’t seen age become an issue in most cases. Prior (full-time) experience can be considered a hindrance as banks like to hire fresh graduates and mould them. But your experience seems to comprise of internships mostly so should be fine.

Thanks, good point. I thought about ACI or Business Analyst at MBB starting in January in my country but truly it would be better to continue in IB. Unfortunately, I heard that in the UK off-cycles  are not so popular. For example Nomura offers IB off-cycle only in Continental Europe or MS only in Operations/Technology etc. in the UK. So do you think in terms of off-cycles I need to apply only to boutiques/something smaller than BB?

This shit with Continental Europeans starting at age 25-30 while Brits and Americans start at 21/22 is just the weirdest thing ever
