Long term career in ECM/DCM?
Does it make sense to deliberately recruit for cap markets and plan to stay versus going for other groups and trying to exit to pe/vc/hf/etc? I'm fairly interested in the work and from my understanding the hours are relatively chill while the comp is still good.
I've heard that DCM and especially ECM are the first to be laid off during recessions. I've also heard that the work is really repetitive-which is fine by me-but makes me worried about the potential for automation.
I'm an incoming freshman at a target (UChicago) for reference.
Edit: Just want to add that the other options I'm considering mainly are corp dev/vc (likely in tech). I have no interest in am/hf/er and am not really interested in pe.

2nd year in ECM at BB. Would recommend you go coverage.
First 6 months it’s exciting but gets so monotonous and mind numbing really fast. All my buddies and myself are actively recruiting out.
Does this change at the senior associate and vp level?
