Lost H1B, what to do?
Anyone on here that didn't get picked for the visa and had to leave the country? What did you end up doing? In the same situation and am feeling lost. Understand it's not the end of the world, but trying to find a path forward and figuring out next steps.
Can they transfer you to London office?
They have been very wishy washy throughout the process and still don't have an answer at this point unfortunately. Seems unlikely at this point. Might have to brush up the resume and start practicing interviews
Are you in banking or buyside?
Find a chick and get married asap
I am a woman lol
Makes it easier. There’s a dude here who just made a post looking for a prostitute as an illustration of how desperate some guys are.
hit up hinge like it’s your day job
Still applies
Realistically - (a) try to get your company to move you to the London / Toronto / your home country office.
If that doesn't work, then either (b) find a job in London (with the new High Potential Individual Visa you can move there before even having a job, assuming you went to a Top 30 school), or (c) find a job in your home country.
There's also (d) go back to school and do a b/s part-time Master's program, during which you can continue working for your current firm. I think that's stupid though and a high opportunity cost compared to (a-c).
Finally, if you really want to move back to the states, would recommend targeting large multinationals with the possibility of coming back to NY on an L-1 after [1-3] years. If you can get (a) done then your firm should be aiming for that anyway.
Option a is looking unlikely given revenues being down all across the firm. Time to interview elsewhere. Appreciate the insights
Apply to London, the visa sponsorship is relatively straight forward and the job market is still hot at junior levels. Given the brexit you will be in the same boat as any other European candidate applying for roles (for visa purposes).
Should not have a problem recruiting if you have 2 to 4 years of BB or EB experience.
I only have one year of experience. Would that be a disadvantage? I actually won’t need to be sponsored for London which is a big plus.
Get a stem masters in finance
Ruling that out for now given opportunity cost and it’s basically going to put me in the same position again in the future
With a new STEM degree you should have 3 years of OPT again? and then more H1-B entries in which there is reserved slots for masters degrees? Someone else correct me if I'm wrong on the latter part but I've seen people go back to school for that STEM degree. I’m also international so will have to worry about this in the future
