Main difference between PIBs and a "Company Profile"

PIB Finance and Company Profile Definition

The main difference between a PIB (Public Information Book) and Company Profile is the amount of detail in each. Think of a Company Profile as a brief snapshot of a company. They tend to be shorter in length, no more than five pages and give a small overview of a company’s management, board, and financials.

PIBs tend to be longer and more detailed. Usually, the Company Profile is the first part of a PIB by way of introduction. PIBs go into depth of a company. They will include annual and quarterly financial details, earning transcripts, research report, and sections from the 10k among other things.

The other main difference between the two is who sees them. Company Profiles are used in books for clients in acquisition and partner ideas while PIBs tend to be for senior bankers to inform them of a company and industry.

I think of Company Profiles as short (5 pages or less) documents that will give someone a snapshot of the company, management/board and financials. PIBs are much longer and more in depth (the company profile is probably the first section of the PIB) - they'll have recent annual and quarterly financials, earnings transcripts, research reports, sections from the 10K, etc.
