Management consulting or munis?
I’m a stem major at a target school, and I have 2 ft offers and wanted to see which one makes more sense to take. Ultimately I want to end up in energy/infra PE.
Offer 1 - management consulting at a boutique firm with a focus on energy and infrastructure. Comp is decent and I expect the hours to be ~50-60 weekly. Team I would be joining is focused on energy transactions, so I would be advising companies on m&a and creating valuation models.
Offer 2 - Municipal IB at a BB. Comp would be about 1.5x Offer 1, but I’d estimate I’d be working 70-80+ hours a week. Work would be pretty much issuing municipal bonds, so no traditional financial modeling. There is a chance I could lateral to a different group but unsure how common that is.
Both offers are pretty attractive and I wouldn’t say I’m leaning towards either one, but I have signed the banking one and have a few weeks to decide on the consulting. Thoughts on which would make me a more attractive candidate for infra/energy PE? Is PE even a realistic goal?
