Masters Graduate From Russia

I hold a Specialist(MS) degree from Russia in finance. Worked in Gazprom moved to US to develop myself in the language and my career. I went to Altai State Technical and I'm looking the opportunity to work inside a IB, HF, PE, or anything related to investments. Now since i hold a masters degree is it a good idea for me to go back to school in order to get recruited?

I'll be honest here...

The US doesn't do a great job of recognizing foreign degrees if they're not from Canada or the UK. It's also extremely difficult to find a job from overseas in entry-level IB programs and fluent English is a must. On top of that, fewer and fewer banks are sponsoring foreigners. Your best bet is to hit a global firm in Moscow and then lateral within the firm to another country after 2 years.

In that case, with that experience, MBA is your strongest route. It would be very difficult to pitch a finance team supply chain background to an investment or banking group.

You should be able to leverage this, plus your MS, to get a decent MBA (I'm assuming your current role is at a recognizable Fortune firm, have a good GPA, and you do well on GMAT).

Honestly, based on where you are right now, networking your way into IB will be an uphill climb, and you're time may be better spent building credibility & network via an MBA.

Even if you get your foot in the door today (which is not impossible), you'll be asking yourself the same questions then as you are today, as you try and make your way up the ladder.

Take it from someone with an unrecognizable European degree.
