MBA Summer Associate Recruiting Timeline

Can anyone provide some color on where the majority of MM IBD firms are in the recruiting cycle for MBA Summer Associates? I know some firms, HW/Jefferies/Moelis for example, have concluded there recruiting for the summer while some of the lower-tier firms have superdays coming up in the first week of February. Does anyone know if the majority of firms are done at this point or if there are some firms that still recruit in February.

Can you give us a rough idea of your school (2-3 peers)? A lot of banks will have at least one-off openings in the spring if a bunch of people quit a particular group once bonuses post and hiring needs change.

Banks extend offers to people who may have offers from 5-6 other banks, so if the same bank happens to get turned down a whole lot, they'll need to come back to fill up their summer classes as well.

Smaller banks may not go out of their way to hire summer associates but be willing to do so if they like someone, so hustle your alumni network. Just get some summer associate position at any bank and you'll have a chance to move up during FT recruiting.

Varies by bank, but usually early june to mid august.

"They are all former investment bankers that were laid off in the economic collapse that Nancy Pelosi caused. They have no marketable skills, but by God they work hard."

My internship with JPM in Tokyo starts next Monday and ends August 8th. However, it does vary by bank like the guy above said.

@"OpsDude" not usually. In turn, the school will coordinate with you to have you take your finals off-site or early. So you will typically start at the same time with other MBAs for the summer, but may miss a few weeks of your Spring quarter as a result.

Contact the companies now. Some start super early. Others won't tell you until April. It's really scattershot.
