MBA —> VP
Let’s be real—putting MBA grads in Associate roles is like hiring a chef to wash dishes. It just doesn’t make sense.
MBAs are trained to lead teams and make big decisions—exactly what a VP should be doing. Why should they have to slog through the Associate grind when they’ve already got the skills to run the show?
Firms are always talking about "maximizing potential." So why not start by putting MBAs where they belong—at the VP level, driving strategy and managing key relationships from day one?
Because the average MBA associate thinks WGL list stands for What’s Gary’s Lunch on their first day in the job.
This is satire right?
It's kinda obvious
It’s a legit question - understand not everyone will agree. When you think about it it starts to make sense
Should just skip the middleman and hire MBAs to be heads of teams imo - they're clearly the brightest and best and have a skillset not suited to being in the trenches so this should be accounted for.
That seems a bit extreme but I respect the idea, think it is being implemented at TD Securities (but that may only be a rumor)
Is this a joke? if not go I want you to go to a new graduate out of residency and have them do your surgery and see how safe you feel
Doctor here—residency is actually designed to train you for surgery—MBA for VP is like taking someone who is not a medical doctor, but has a DBA (Doctorate in business administration) specializing in healthcare, or a PhD holder in health economics to do your surgery.
I seriously think OP may never have worked in IB before. This troll post isn't even funny or competent baiting
“doctor” is prospect in IB
....I thought MBA is where you go if you wanted to switch careers
Strongly agree. Similarly, a PhD grad should be hired as an MD, as the client will definitely appreciate the intellectual prowess of the holders of various doctorate degrees. Furthermore, business or econ professor from HBS/GSB should be hired as a group head to lead the whole team.
Written by someone who doesn’t have an MBA
What about MBA’s who come from IB, i know a few people who went to a M7 just to move up the ladder in terms of the firm they worked at, some were at regional boutiques and got a MBA to have a shot at BB recruiting
Why not MBA -> MD
Maybe a chef that can't microwave a pizza without burning down the entire block in a giant inferno.
Analysts are half right in their contempt for mba associates. They're right that mba guys with no finance experience are often useless. But so are 99% of analysts that confuse stupid grunt work with investment banking
Obviously the contempt comes from the MBAs being paid more while being equally (un)skilled - it’s not about absolute measures of skill
“Tell me you have never worked with an MBA associate without telling me you have never worked with an MBA associate” aah-post
Nice meme
Yikes. If you actually are asking, it's because most of them do not have that much IB experience yet, besides only doing a 10 month internship. Also most of them were using the MBA to career pivot, and were not in the finance field pre-business school. They have a long ways to go and need to start at Associate.
