Menlo Park Housing for Summer

I’m an incoming 2024 summer analyst for the Menlo Park tech group of a bank. The office is located on Sand Hill Road and I’m looking for apartments/rooms in the area that I can rent for the short-term. I’ve looked at long-term airbnbs, facebook groups, and apartments.com but can’t seem to find anything reasonably priced. I can potentially get together 3 other friends to find a place too. I’m currently looking at places around downtown Menlo, PA, Mountain View, and Redwood City, but at this point I’m willing to take what I can get.

If anyone has experience/knowledge about finding housing in this area, any advice would be greatly appreciated! If you’re also looking for housing around the area for the summer, let’s connect.

Ah, the quest for summer housing in Menlo Park, a classic challenge for many a summer analyst! Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some tips and insights that might help you navigate this tricky terrain:

  1. Networking with Peers: You're on the right track thinking about teaming up with friends. Not only does this make financial sense, but it also creates a support system for your summer experience. Keep reaching out on forums like WSO, LinkedIn groups, and even university alumni networks. There's often a surprising number of people in the same boat.

  2. Facebook Groups and Craigslist: While you've already looked into Facebook groups, it's worth diving deeper. Specific groups dedicated to housing in the Bay Area can be goldmines. Craigslist, despite its reputation, can also offer some hidden gems. Just be vigilant about scams.

  3. Corporate Housing Options: Some banks or firms offer housing stipends or have partnerships with local housing providers for their interns. If you haven't already, inquire with your HR department about any potential housing assistance or recommendations.

  4. Local Universities: Universities like Stanford often have bulletin boards or online forums where you can find housing listings, especially for the summer when many students are away. This could be a less explored avenue worth checking out.

  5. Extended Stay Hotels: While not the first choice for many due to cost, some extended stay hotels offer reasonable rates for longer stays. They can be a good backup option if you're struggling to find something.

  6. Consider Your Commute: Based on insights from the WSO threads, remember to factor in your commute. Living in downtown Menlo, Palo Alto (PA), Mountain View, or Redwood City can offer different experiences in terms of travel time to Sand Hill Road. Public transportation and traffic patterns in the Bay Area can significantly impact your daily routine.

  7. Act Fast but Carefully: The housing market in the Bay Area is notoriously competitive. When you find a good option, be prepared to move quickly. However, always ensure you're not rushing into a scam or a bad living situation. A quick video tour or a call with the current tenants can provide valuable insights.

Remember, persistence is key. The right place might pop up when you least expect it. Keep your options open, and don't hesitate to reach out to your network for leads. Good luck with your housing hunt and your upcoming summer analyst role!
