Most comfortable dress shirt?
Given return to the office and the fact that I can no longer grind through excel wearing sweats and a t-shirt, does anyone have recommendations for genuinely comfortable dress shirts?
I’m talking a dress shirt that makes you go damn, am I wearing a shirt at all? Not just your fav brand.
Faherty legend collection button down
Feel like these wouldn’t fly in office, meant more traditional style corporate shirts
That’s a shame. They’re absurdly comfortable
Is that the sweater shirt? Looks wonderful but agree that probably wouldn't fly with dress pants.
Yeah. They made one in a button down form that is thinner and a little more put together. Not quite office ready but it’s the only flannel like shirt I own/need.
Rhone Commuter’s Dress Shirt
Second this. These are soooo good
Eton
Can confirm
Eton deez nutz
Custom made
Any thoughts on Proper Cloth?
I like Proper Cloth a lot, have been a customer for 6 years
I am, unfortunately, a nerd about this. IMO Eton punches far, far above the price range. Is the stitching as beautiful as something like Attolini or Kiton?
No.
Can you wear them through a 15 hour day without wrinkles and minimal maintenance?
Yes.
They're also very cheap if you buy on sale!
My advice...buy a few and get them tailored. You guys will laugh but I went as far as 3x of the same shirt but tailored for +10 lbs and -10 lbs lol
Where do you get them cheap on sale?
Second this, where at cause they sound great but too expensive for a poor analyst
How much does your day to day outfit cost?
One shirt is $250...
Twillory has some solid shirts. They almost always have a sale running on their site as well.
The performance shirts are great - non iron and super stretchy
Bonobos tech shirts
State & Liberty
Bonobos Jetsetter Stretch.
Mizzen and Main
Agreed, most of them are washer / dryer safe too so you save a lot on dry cleaning
This is the answer
2nd, these are very comfortable
Mizzen is the fucking gas. So comfortable, toss in washer drier, have athletic fits that hug the biceps. All day.
What kind of shirts do my gym bros here wear? Something bigger in the chest/shoulders/arms but still tapered/fitted around the core. I usually go the easy route with Brooks Brothers non-irons but looking to switch it up.
Also wondering about this. I don't like having a bunch of extra fabric around the midsection
State & Liberty advertises themselves as being dress clothes for athletes
On the opposite side, what do you usually wear to the gym? I've been getting a lot more serious this year (down 20lbs since Jan 1st with some real muscle) and am thinking about getting some actual gym clothes.
stringer
I just wear cheap chinese junk from amazon since they get so sweaty and trashed. I think the brand is nelus or something? Although I've been gifted a few lululemon pieces over the years and love them - the long sleeve tops give you a very flattering outline.
I wear mostly Nike Dri Fit or Gymshark. I like the Arrival line of Gymshark shirts. They have really small holes all over it which keeps you cool. They're like $20 each or less if you catch a sale.
All Gymshark/Alphalete if you want to be an "influencer".
Go to a tailor, shouldn’t cost you more than 10-30 bucks if you really have that dorito shape. Unfortunately the market isn’t big enough for manufacturers to sell shirts in a true athletic fit. You can also save money going this route because you don’t have to take fit into account at all when buying (other than sleeve length and collar).
Mizzen & Main was the top post when I made a thread on this a while back (specifically on clothes for power lifters). Im 6'1" 190 lbs and a Large feels big on me for context. They are really nice because they are loose where you standard conventional button down would be tight (e.g., chest, biceps / triceps). My only complaint is the Large is pretty large, I wish it was a bit more form fitting. Mizzen and Main shirts can be thrown in the washier / drier which is a huge plus (they are wrinkle free). Also, their quarter zips are fire.
&Collar is dope
Give Kamakura a try, I think they still have a store on Madison Avenue and if you buy 15, you can get a 16th free (yeah it’s a lot of shirts but if you wear them every day it’s only 3 weeks worth, helps cut down on trips to the cleaners)
Kamakura is amazing and maybe the best value for your dollar in terms of dress shirts. They punch far above their weight.
what about slacks? also not sure what the correct fit is nowadays, ive been seeing more and more being cut above the ankle pls lmk
Look, some people are going for that "where's the flood" look, and I guess it's a style. Personally, I don't think you can go wrong with a straight leg with a very slight break, aka the bottom of your pants just barely touches the top of your shoes when standing. It's a look that is pretty timeless.
100Hands, enough said
No love for Buttercloth!?
Icy cotton, nothing better
Bonobos Jetsetter, there is no comp.
Shirts I've found that weather the office storm. I'd also note the Fashion forum has some good color on this topic.
- Eton: Reason it's come up in this thread a lot. Pros: Durable, comfortable, sales on Gilt all the time. Cons: Once you go away from white/blue colors, the patterns get really weird IMO
- Borrelli: Pros: unbelievably comfortable, tapers a slim body very well, looks 'young' while still being traditional, can find new ones on eBay in the standard colors for pretty much all sizes at a good price. Cons: Somewhat delicate (e.g., elbow holes aren't uncommon), expensive when bought at retail, not good for heavier/muscular builds
- Bonobos: Pros: high comfort, sizes for everyone, not expensive. Cons: some of the styles look a bit too casual/dressed down
- Proper Cloth: Pros: no hassle, clean fitting clothes, huge focus on customer service, price is right considering the quality/work. Cons: Other than light blue or white shirts the styles just look 'off' IMO
- Turnbull & Asser: Pros: almost impossible to look bad, custom fitting sessions, classic style, very comfortable. Cons: expensive, can age a person, somewhat delicate
- Loro Piana/Brunello Cucinelli/Brioni/etc.: Pros: other than bespoke these are probably some of the highest quality/comfort makes money can buy. Cons: unreal expense, can be very delicate, depending on your level at work people may wonder where all this disposable income comes from, need to be very careful with sales on their clothes (e.g., weird collars, french cuffs that somehow have buttons, linen blends). I have an LP shirt (mind you the shirt is 100% cotton) that literally feels like baby soft cashmere and is so lightweight I barely feel it
- Online Shirt Brands/Online Tailors: Pros: typically good prices and you get quality, comfort stemming from the shirts are made to fit you and--technically--you alone; Cons: It can be hit or miss (e.g., sometimes you get odd fabric blends, fit is a little off), customer service is normally good, but can be a real pain sometimes
- Non-Chain Bespoke Tailoring : Pros: Absolute certainty on fit, customize the shirt any way you like and with your fabric of choice which almost implies maximum personal comfort. Cons: can be very expensive or not (e.g., you gotta do your HW), time-consuming, usually longer timeline to get the shirts, depending on your fabric choice the shirts can be very fragile
