MS IB Summer Associate or Corp Dev Summer at Microsoft

Any thoughts on which to take? I was attracted to a summer in IB to see what it's like and to further build my financial skills but I am leaning towards Corp Dev as a longer term career option (due to lifestyle). Having come from more of a strategic background would a summer in IB still be worthwhile before shifting to corp dev or possibly PE post-mba?

I think the general advice would be that you can pretty easily go for MS IB SA -> F50(0) Corp Dev FT, but not so easily the other way around. Not sure if that necessarily changes with the Microsoft name, though.

On a side note, I wonder about whether Microsoft's long-term survival may actually be threatened by Apple. I see a lot of college kids using Macs. What's going to happen when these overpriced-paperweight-buying idiots form the bulk of the working population?

definitely go to Microsoft. MS IBD is great, but going in as an associate right now is a pretty bad value proposition, and it's fairly likely you'll get washed out in a layoff in the next 12-24 months (industry is probably only 30-40% the way through of its contraction); and if you don't get washed out, you're not going to get paid anyways for a while...

and then there's the fact that you'll have a life. not wanting to kill yourself is often underrated until you experience the alternative
