Mutton chops and tonsure in IB?

Incoming male FT analyst. I have been rocking a mutton chops beard and a 12th century monk style tonsure haircut (the ladies go wild for it). I am wondering if this is acceptable in IB.

I have shaved myself completely hairless everywhere else, so I am hoping that makes up for being a bit unconventional up top. My hair really is an expression of myself I feel like that will make me come off as more authentic.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, unconventional grooming choices like mutton chops and a tonsure haircut are likely to raise eyebrows in investment banking, especially as an incoming FT analyst. The industry is known for its conservative culture, where clean, professional grooming is often expected, particularly for junior employees. While authenticity is important, first impressions in IB are heavily influenced by appearance, and standing out too much might not work in your favor.

If you want to maintain some individuality, consider toning down the look to something more subtle and polished. For example, a neatly trimmed beard (if facial hair is allowed) and a more conventional haircut could strike a balance between self-expression and professionalism. Once you've established yourself and understand the firm's culture better, you can gauge how much leeway you have for personal style.

My thoughts below posted on a similar thread.

Part of being successful in investment banking is "getting it". And part of "getting it" is understanding that sometimes the things that seem inconsequential are actually most important. Since you've asked for advice I would suggest you take up the style and attributes of an exceptionally polished investment banker. Much like picking out a suit - it's best to stick to the tried and true, at least until you've had your legs under the desk sufficiently long to make discerning judgements and adopt the effortless grace of "sprezzatura".
