My analyst sucks and they're making my life miserable as an intern
Wrapping up my internship this week in a group that I really like (M&A Sector coverage)
Issue has been the new analyst who joined a few weeks ago... they are really awful to work for
Terrible ability to communicate what they want, always trying to over-correct my work despite MDs and VPs being very happy with my output so far since joining the group before they did, so seniors have spent more time with me and have trusted me with output way before they joined
I tried my best to listen to them and to accommodate their requests but they always try to over-engineer the slide to a point where it's impossible and when I do deliver a good idea, they try to take credit themselves (was funny to me when the VP asked them to explain the rationale and they didn't know what the slide was about because they didn't do it). I had to explain to the VP afterwards privately I had made it and I walked them through the rationale myself, to which the VP was very happy and commended my work.
They'll definitely go out of their way to not have me back but not sure how it's viewed internally amongst seniors given they are the reason that things take longer, deliverables look worse and seniors have told me I am a reliable pair of hands.
I do want to return to the group but they said they are going to speak to the analysts, which doesn't fill me with confidence
Would love to hear thoughts on this because clearly the seniors are happy but the juniors less so and it's becoming harder and harder before the end of the week when I'm gone
Hard to say - but most new FT analysts aren't going to go out of their way to say no to an intern if the more 'senior' folks (e.g., associates, senior analyst, VP) are happy with the intern, its just not worth burning political capital doing so when they themselves aren't that established
They handed in feedback which was not favourable for me but issue was that when I was staffed on projects where I worked with other team members, the issues didn't exist and seniors were satisfied
Worst moments have been when the analyst has inserted themselves into my workstreams despite me doing just fine with the current team: I can't say no to them but really don't want them involved as I lose all momentum and things start to go wrong immediately
