Napping during IB
Excluding WFH, does anyone live close enough to work so that they can go home and take a quick nap during down times? Especially if you had a rough night and am waiting on comments

Bump
you'll be too stressed out to do this
I used to power nap in the bathroom or conference rooms where the windows were frosted
One of my biggest IB tips:
Most companies (including IBs) nowadays have a “personal”/private room that’s designated for nursing mothers, prayer, etc. and can be locked. My bank has one and I’ve definitely grabbed a few 45min power naps after 2am nights.
Hmm usually find it quite difficult to get good naps from those
If it's specifically marked as a nursing room please don't use it if you're not nursing. Actually heard super awks story of some female coworkers going to the nursing room only to find it occupied with a guy... Stick to the prayer/meditation room if you need a nap!
Who tf is nursing at 2am bud
Impossible if its busy. We're always on bbg so greenlight is always on.
Sometimes I saw screw it and go to the gym at night and go back. I think some need to grow a pair of balls.
Sorry what’s bbg?
Bloomberg, chat function
Why not at your desk? I do so all the time.
Power move. Agreed this can be a good idea
The question is can you actually sleep. For me although I guess its still helpful health-wise, I can hold with stress/goals when underslept but if you relax too much during the day you gonna feel the countereffects
WFH in IB so didn't do it in my bank but during my start up internship I used to take a nap on the bathroom if I was too tired for 20 minutes. For me if I'm too tired, I just can get into to light sleep mode right away which helps a bit.
Have never napped in the office other than occasional doze off during late hours. I live two blocks from my firm and even then, to change into more comfortable clothing, then lay down, take ~10 min to fall asleep and get up to change and go back just isn’t worth it to me. WFH is a different story and that’s very easy to do. But proximity to the office doesn’t make it anymore enticing imo.
Thanks that’s an interesting insight
Back when it was in-person, I would keep a blanket and pillow in one of my filing cabinets. When it was like 11:30pm and I was waiting for comments, I would selectively just sleep under my desk for 30 minutes with an alarm ready (maybe longer or shorter depending on who was providing comments). At that point in the night it was mainly just Analysts and Associates left so I didn’t really care about being professional at that point.
None of them made any negative comments when they saw you?
lmfao this can’t be real
I lived 5m from the office as an analyst and took about a nap a week.
Did you find this immensely helpful and boost productivity?
Not really, but napping on the couch in your apartment is a lot more fun than pretending to look busy at your desk, when you’re waiting for comments.
Knew an analyst who lived literally across the street from the office. She would often go home and relax / surf the web / even take naps during the day, especially when she was not on any deals pre-COVID so nothing was super time sensitive. She's in PE and doesn't live so close anymore so definitely misses that part of banking.
