Need tips on how to not snap at lazy bosses you don't respect
As an analyst, you come into IB recognizing there's going to be lots of annoying tasks to do on a moment's notice. The hope is the compensation and/or exit opps in the future make it bearable. You see the growth curve for your own development so when someone asks to do something, you don't question it at all. You respect your bosses for their knowledge and ability to action difficult questions well.
As an associate, maybe the exit opps don't come, but the compensation is decent. You begin year 5-6 in your career understanding the deal process, various sub-verticals of coverage, and begin handling client discussions on your own.
Maybe you start with a new firm or the team has layoffs across Analysts and VPs and suddenly you're tasked with a bunch of Analyst work, while also having a boss that just seems insanely checked out and lazy and has you drafting emails all the time so all they have to do is click 'send' and regularly ditches calls altogether after engagement letters are signed.
Sometimes I'll have to go outside for a walk after one of these issues occur and just walk it off before simply replying "sure, will do" but it's getting harder and harder to do.
