Networking as a transfer question

Hello WSO— I am transferring from community college to a 4 year university in Spring 2021. The 4 year school is generally a non-target, but there are several alums In IB, especially at the banks with a strong presence in the area.

I would like to start building a network with the alumni in the area, but I worry that contact them before I have started classes might be premature. How would you feel if someone transferring to your school who had never set foot in a class reached out to you? Good first step by a motivated and eager candidate or someone who is jumping the gun?

I am a transferand called myself a student at the school prior to taking classes there

They don't give a shit, they're not gonna ask, don't feel the need to talk about the fact that you're a transfer unless they ask more about it.

Fellow cc transfer here, I will be starting in the fall but I've been networking since May, and just don't mention it in your email to the alumni. You're just gonna ask them about their personal experiences anyway so it won't really come up in the call. Now I have connected with a few cc transfers in IB, and in the initial email I would mention that im also from cc just to have a connection.
