New York people

Anyone want to share some good bars/areas? The past few weeks have been pretty disheartening... spanning from the douchebags at 230 Fifth and M&H to the 19 year old NYU chicks at Union Square there doesn't really seem to be any place for 22-25 year old professionals (not just bankers). A friend suggested West Village but it just seems to be a bunch of 30 year olds pretending they're back in college... and for god's sake don't say Murray Hill.

If you're up for a more mature scene (read: not singing along to Journey at 3am and not trying your hardest to look like a "baller" and buying bottles at Cain), you can definitely find it. I've always been a big fan of hotel bars, and not just the fuckin Hotel Gansevoort (sp?), but places like the W and other like minded places. There is definitely a scene for a mature night out when you want to escape some of the BS associated with places like 230 Fifth and the meatpacking district.

I know I wasn't too specific there, but have faith and you will find some quality places.

What's wrong with Murray Hill ? I live right across the street from Third & Long and hit up all the spots around there all the time, it's pretty chill...Try Whiskey Bar or Wet Bar at the W's, Gaslight at Meatpacking is effin noisy but I like it....

whatever you do, if you go to ulysses, keep your eye out for a "trader" from goldman that might try to stiff you with a three figure bar tab.

new york is full of all kinds of hooligans.

Yo. 230 fifth is ridiculous, aside from the view. The club scene is pretty jersey all in all. West Chelsea has great places, just bring your own crew. For the banker 22-25 y/o crowd, do Murray Hill. Nothing really compares. Dorrian's on the upper east for the sorority UES types. LES is great for dive places. Ludlow and Orchard have some quality bars. Union Square/East Village is lame bar-wise... aside from a few divey places on 2nd ave. All in all, it depends what vibe/scene youre looking for. But as Seanc said, Murray Hill is it unless you want a swankier/dance place.

Fair enough, I'll give Murray Hill a go this weekend. Last couple of times I've been there though, it's been really bad experiences... a friend took home two chicks for what he thought was going to be awesome until one chick pulled out a dildo, told him she wanted to f*ck him in the ass with it while the other chick taped. Another guy went to a chick's place with her, finds out she's married and the husband is out of town.

Maybe those were just statistical outliers, but come on you would avoid Murray Hill too.

Hahaha. The second incident sounds awesome. Murray Hill is a cliche all in its own, in that every finance twenty-something goes out there. But really, it is a great place to meet professional girls and girls that want to fuck the professional finance guy (which is probably 50% each). Third and long on down to Gramercy is pretty solid. Joshua Tree on Thursday.

Also, the meatpacking district (10/11ave right below 14th) has some great places, like rooftop. And just north of 14th street is the Maritime hotel, which has Hiro and the other 2 bars above Hiro. A great place to booze, pick up a chick, and drop $400 bucks at 3am for a room you gotta be out of 8 hours later. It has happened to the best of us....
