New York question

Hey,

I've got a question for you nyc people. I'm looking for a place in Manhattan, and I see a lot of affordable luxury bldgs in the Financial District. However my friend told me that FiDi doesn't have a lot of restaurants or bars or anything, just office buildings and apartment buildings. How true is this? Also wondering about people's feelings about Stuy Town and Soho. The things that are important to me in order are safety, proximity to restaurants/bars/groceries/etc., general ambiance of neighborhood. Thanks!
