No-name IB boutique internship or nothing?

Would you renege your 2020 internship at a no name IB boutique if you plan to apply to BB in 2021? Alternatively, I would take summer classes.

I have a very reputable PE internship, 3.7 GPA and extra curricular. I am wondering if working at a no name IB shop will ruin my chances getting into a BB. Is it a downgrade from my PE internship? What do you think?

I know how this comes off but if my end goal is working at a BB than I want to do what’s best for my career.

don't turn it down if you have no alternatives. that would be foolish. do the internship, try to learn everything you can, then try to leverage that experience when applying for better firms in the next application cycle.

repeat: don't turn it down if you have no alternatives.

Thank you for your interest in the 2020 Investment Banking Full-time Analyst Programme (London) at JPMorgan Chase. After a thorough review of your application, we regret to inform you that we are unable to move forward with your candidacy at this time.

Why would you turn down the 2020 IB internship offer if you wanna do BB in 2021? Yes, it’s a no name shop, but I think you can make a good story where you have done a PE internship but are committed to banking, so you continued to find IB jobs and finally landed one, no matter if it’s equivalently reputable.

And since you don’t have a better choice, no name IB is still something and is IB.
