no offer at BB Houston within IB
can anyone give me advice or anything on what I should do after not receiving an offer in Houston? is it even worth recruiting? seems almost impossible given current environment. please private message me, anything will help. really do not know what to do.
p.s. I was one of several people who got cut. was not the only person.
Which bank was this for?
JPM?
yup
Was there reasoning for it other than headcount that they gave you?
they said main reason was headcount/not enough spots. said in years prior they hire 90 percent of their class. there were some other guys in my class who got cut whom certainly deserved an offer in my opinion.
truly lost on what to do and where to even begin with recruiting
you go to a target school? Try to leverage alumni and career network
yeah I do go to a target. when is prime time for full time recruiting? don’t you think I only have til end of august to find somewhere?
Not at all. Some really cool places recruit offcycle at odd times. Lazard last year was recruiting all the way till November, although this was a regional office. Bain cap, KKR also recruited in october. Then theres consulting which starts in Sept. Remember, all you need is one offer. Keep at it!
...........
recruit full time for another industry. Houston will be pretty tough, so look to Dallas if you’re from Texas (or the next best city at your school for recruitment). Even if you land something in O&G, it’ll be leaner and leaner from here on out. Hope you land something and you can look back on this as a blessing in disguise.
yeah thanks for the advice. kinda shocked because they assured us the entire summer they had spots for everyone. obviously they did not.
How'd you like the culture of the group
lol classic
I'm sorry to hear that.
Definitely start hitting the pavement looking for the spots available, but candidly I would avoid pursuing O&G unless you learn of spots from other firms you recruited with. Houston and energy IB is in a terrible spot at the moment, so I don't think your lack of offer will come across the way it would in a) normal times b) a non-energy group.
Definitely sucks to re-recruit but it helps you spin the story better since it’s a headcount issue and not a performance issue. In most years if you were like 1 of 5 analysts who didn’t get an offer it’s just a huge red flag but if most didn’t get one then it’s an easier thing to explain.
I mean overall full-time positions available across the street might still be down bc of covid but try to fully leverage your alumni network since you go to a target and be open to all groups/products within IB.
