Non-Target Freshman, Low GPA...please tell me all hope is not lost

I am a freshman at a non-target majoring in finance. i had a 3.75 gpa my first semester of college but i had a very difficult time this semester after my cousin died. grades haven't come out yet but best case scenario is a 3.5 this semester, worst-case 3.1. I know recruiting is going to get 100x harder for me now but I was hoping to hear from someone who has possibly been in a similar situation: is it still possible for me to break into IB? What steps should I take moving forward?

4.0 sophomore fall semester. You just need to get above the 3.5 cutoff and you’ll be fine. If they ask why the 3.1, bring up the circumstances, but don’t make that an excuse. You got plenty of time to prep

Network as hard as you can - realistically, your GPA shouldn't affect how you recruit as you should be giving it 100% regardless on all fronts. Don't think about it as it isn't something you can control right now, just do your best on improving your grades next year and give it your best shot
