NYU SCPS Certificates
Please share your thoughts on NYU's SCPS program.
Does a specialized certificate from there look good on top of a generic undergrad or post grad finance degree?
Given that the certificates are very focused, would having a certificate in Investment Banking from the program be a good thing to consider. The courses required would include modeling, advanced fin statement analysis, m&a, and bankrupcy/restructuring.
Thanks for the help.
Waste of money. Take it from someone who knows. Good for your own personal edification, but not really an asset on the resume...
If you're resume is a 6, it may give you a 6.3/6.5 to put it into perspective...
I think these courses are pretty good for certain purposes. It's not going to turn you into a stud candidate in and of itself, but it can give you a little boost like vadremc said. I wasn't able to get an investment banking internship after junior year so i took these courses over the summer to get some work w/ financial accounting and corp finance, topics I had no prior exposure to at my liberal arts college. Once full time recruiting rolled around, I was able to play it up as "Well, I didn't get a summer analyst gig but I did this to try to learn some skills that would be useful for an analyst." But, if you already have a finance degree, I don't really see this being useful for you.
thanks for the feedback guys. Glad I asked.

does anyone know anything about the NYU school of continuing professional studies? They offer a certificate in Investment Banking - any value to taking these classes?
I'm working on a certificate towards financial risk management. Think of these classes strictly as tools for your own edification relative to your banking discipline and resume fillers, because that's essentially what they are. No less, no more.
I'd appreciate it if you could give me some tips regarding the NYU program. I am a year out of school, been trying to break into banking but it's been difficult coming from a non-target. I was thinking of using an IB certificate to 1)get myself somewhat up to speed since I haven't been hand on with the material since undergrad; 2)as a network?
Beyond the education of the courses, is the network you get from this program at all helpful? Are there any career resources? Will this certificate make me more marketable, or will I still start bottom rung?
Any advice would be appreciated
i believe the term for nyu scps is weaksauce. unless its for your own learning, dont bother... waste of money
well, it is for my own education, but I have no idea what the program is like, and there is little opinion on it.
Do you think I would get much out of it considering I completed a BBA in Finance at a good non-target?
I'm really just looking for a boost - figure I can learn in a concentrated capacity, throw it on my resume, and leverage any contacts that are attached to the program.
any more thoughts?
I would really appreciate some input/opinions before I lay out for these classes.
Does anyone know anything about them?

I've searched through WSO and talked to a number of people about New York University, School of Continuing and Professional Studies (SCPS) and so far it seems like a good move. Does anyone else here have any input?
what do you plan to study?
degree or certificate?
I don't know yet, I'm still undecided. I'm trying to find the best use of nights/weekends for the next 2 years. The goal is to make myself a stronger candidate for grad school [my ugrad GPA was weak].
Useful for personal learning, not resume building. I do not think it will mean anything for grad school.
