People working in IB in Canada...how do I go about breaking in from the University of Cambridge (dual citizen)

Hi, I'm a first-year at the University of Cambridge (3-year degree) with dual Canadian and British citizenship. Moved away from Canada aged 11/12 and very interested in moving back and working in IB (hopefully ECM/DCM)

I know Canada has strong target schools such as Ivey and Queens...how would Cambridge be perceived along with these in terms of IB, and how best should I set myself up from here/how competitive is it compared to the UK?

Thanks, I appreciate any advice

ah that's quite disheartening to hear...even Cambridge uni wouldn't sorta be able to overcome the domestic talent aspect?

Also I get that might be that a lot of people who study abroad did so straight after high school, and hence they see that negatively, but I did move when I was much younger, and I do wanna come back

Just my hunch but it may be viewed as either you turned your back on our domestic pool, didn't make it in the UK, and came back or you may give off a superiority vibe if we hired you. Funny that is what happened to my friend. left Canada to do T15 MBA school in US, didn't make the cut for recruitment then came back to Canada with his superiority complex. Ended up with no job in Canada but found a small tech company that would take him back in the States.

I just did a quick linkedin search for all Cambridge graduates in Canada, and confirmed my suspicion. Not many in FO roles here

Poster above is very right. My relative is at a Canadian target and as an International student despite having great experiences abroad, he is having difficulty breaking into the industry. The industry is also relatively tiny compared to UK/US and the pay suckssss. If I were I'd definitely stay in the UK for a few more years and reap the benefits of a Cambridge degree. Canada's outlook is not looking very well either. They are extremely slow with Covid vaccinations, the job market has taken a big hit.

Not sure what you mean by the pay sucking but perhaps you should do a comparison between what Canadian banks pay vs UK banks (both at similar discounts to US) banks and then get back to us.  Canadian COL is way lower as well.

Canadian analysts make between C$150k-210k at big 5.
