phone call with oil & gas ceo

I've got a pretty solid (in my opinion) informational interview set up with an alum who is now a CEO of a decently known oil & gas operator next week. He was previously COO of another o&g company until it was acquired by a major a few years back. Further, he created the energy group at a pretty well-known middle market IB before going corporate ... Pretty much he has a ton of experience in exactly what I want to do. I've got a pretty good feel on what types of questions I'm going to ask him, but was wondering if any o&g / nat resources / energy guys could chime in on this and give me some additional pointers on how to approach this call. my goal is to have him connect me with his old bank and / or other people who make things happen in the industry

thanks.

I'd just suggest making it clear, through your questions or otherwise, that you are passionate about the industry and are closely following it. Pick up a couple research reports / news pieces on whatever basin he is focused in and mention you "saw xyz trend happening in that basin, how is this affecting you?" Maybe there is a midstream infrastructure build out happening, or maybe they are flaring gas (Bakken). Just sound educated and that you actually like energy, and that will go a long way, especially when he picks up the phone to call his old banking buddies.
