Piper Sandler Energy Thoughts

Hi guys,

Wondering what everyone’s thoughts are on Piper Sandler energy team. Are they reputable in terms of deals and do they place well for PE? I know mega fund is out the picture but do they still place well in mm pe shops? Need thoughts before making a decision, will my career be stunted if PE is my goal?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, Piper Sandler's energy team hasn't been specifically highlighted as one of their standout groups like Chemicals (Valence Group), FIG (Sandler O'Neill), or Tech (DBO Partners). However, Piper Sandler overall is a solid middle-market (MM) bank with a strong reputation in certain sectors. While mega fund (MF) PE exits might not be common, there are plenty of MM and lower MM PE recruitment opportunities from Piper Sandler, as noted in previous discussions.

If PE is your goal, your career won't necessarily be stunted by starting at Piper Sandler, especially if you can leverage strong deal experience and networking. However, it might be worth considering the strength of the specific group you're joining and how it aligns with your long-term goals. If energy is your focus, you may want to evaluate the team's deal flow, reputation, and alumni placement to ensure it aligns with your aspirations.
