Plain-Text Resume on Company Website

So as I have been applying to banks via their websites and many ask for a "plain-text" resume. I currently have mine in PDF and word formats. Would simply copying and pasting from Word be OK or would that throw the tabs/formatting off? How does one go about making a plain text resume, especially when the banks don't let you preview it before submitting? Thanks for your help.

Try pasting into Notepad. If you can see it on Notepad, it's guaranteed to show up in any format. You can get a bit creative here. Instead of bullet points, you can use the *. Make sure items are spaced properly. I would align everything to the left, so no indenting or centering. Another thing you can do is something like

for the headings. You can use a series of + instead, whatever you want as long as it's all there and consistent. Just play around with the looks. I'd like to add that sometimes you are allowed to preview what you pasted. If your copy-pasted text from PDF or Word looks fine when previewed, go with that. If formatting is a bit off, then do the Notepad formatting. The text-based resume is just there for simplicity and because they want it to be compatible with all systems. It won't look nearly as good as your PDF, but you will most likely be able to attach your PDF version later on in the application. They understand that this text form is not what it actually looks like.
