Plz help Part-2

Earlier on here I asked for help regarding networking and sending out cold emails - https://www.wallstreetoasis.com/forums/please-hel…. I am trying really hard and sending out dozens and dozens of cold emails and nothing seem to work out. I usually start by saying- my name, school, how I got their contact, my interest in IB, my current internship and ask for advice over call/coffee and not getting any replies. Ik IB analysts are busy but I don't know what to do if no one is answering. I read a lot on here about cold emailing and used that advice. Can someone please give me some input, I would really appreciate that. Also just curious, Is it possible to leverage a BB AM offer to get SA IB interview/ offer?

Please help your boy out!!

I think you are overreacting, especially if these are completely cold emails. Response rates with absolutely no connection are naturally going to be very low, which makes it a bit of a numbers game. The most effective thing you can do is follow up after a week or so, at least a couple of times.

In short, you aren't necessarily doing anything wrong, but need to start following up.

Thanks for the input fuzzy_stocks but I'm not getting much response from my school's alumni and not to mention we only got a handful of them in IB. I'm def gonna start sending more from tomorrow.

Also how many cold emails do bankers get? Do they just look at it and delete them or actually think about responding

I was in the same position, so I know. There are already countless threads with networking advice, but I'll share some here anyway.

Keep it short. Most 19-20 year old students would be hard pressed to justify an email longer than around 5 sentences. If it is a more personal connection, maybe 6 sentences at the very most.

Leave out how you got their contact. They don't care, and assume that you found them on LinkedIn anyway. Explicitly saying this is wasting precious real estate out of your 5 sentences.

Don't try too too hard to sound like you're super "passionate" about IB or finance. Just be yourself and say you are interested in learning more.

Some may not agree with this, but I would recommend not sending emails on Mondays, Fridays, or over the weekend.

To reiterate my previous comment, following up is the most important part of networking. Sometimes someone will open an email, get distracted, and forget to respond. It's nothing personal, and you have nothing to lose by trying again next week.

And lastly - this goes for all emails - always use careful wording to show that you can be very accommodating of their schedule, and include a thank you to show your appreciation.

If you're sending cold emails and are from a non target be prepared for a low response rate. When I was reaching out mine was as low as 1% at times. The only thing that I can suggest is find something that you have in common with them. Maybe you two had the same sophomore internship, maybe you're from the same city, etc. Any small connection like that I would make sure that you outline it in the subject so that you make sure they see it. Other than that always make sure to circle around after a few weeks. It might be embarrassing sending them 3 emails and not hearing back, but whats a lot more embarrassing is not getting an internship!

Make sure your emails are short. I gave myself a 3 sentence maximum. Also make sure to follow up by replying to the email 1-2 weeks after you send it if you get no response. Doing that doubled my response rate. Overall it was 10%, but some times that manifested in me sending out 45 emails with no response and then the next 5 all got responses. Doubt you'd be able to leverage an AM offer. I had a BB IB offer and tried to leverage it at 5 firms, and only 1 responded. Probably because of my nontarget status but IDK.
