POLL: Do you take any form of prescription medication after working full time?

Been feeling anxious from constant stress after working past midnight continuously for the past few months. Was wondering if others here experience the same or take any form of prescription medication, and has it been helpful?

Is it common for people to take medication of any type? I hear a lot of people take adderall as well.

Do you take any form of prescription medication of any type after working full time?

I probably should take some for anxiety but I smoke a bowl before bed every night instead, I find it to be a lot more helpful and cathartic

Have you tried talk therapy? It sounds like your anxiety and stress is more from a result of work, rather than a chemical imbalance - I would at least start with a therapist and you can discuss medication, but those will not reduce your stress. Of course the other answer is "get more sleep" but appreciate that's not an easy fix.

Adderall is for ADD/ADHD, not anxiety. I would also not get on Adderall unless you need to. I have had friends decide to get off of it and it's not a great experience - lots of weight gain and it's difficult to re-learn to focus without the help. It's also become a huge pain to get any drugs in this class prescribed and filled.

Cutting caffeine completely cured my anxiety/PTSD (it reduced by about 80-90%). I would theorise that a lot of other people would benefit from the same, given how common large quantities of caffeine use is, rather than getting zombified on SSRIs. Only issue is caffeine also increases productivity. There's some nootropics which apparently reduce anxiety effects of caffeine but haven't tried them yet.

I think something like 66% of adults in the U.S. take some type of prescription med to begin with, so correlation isn't all causation. I always had sick anxiety but my parents are nature freaks and don't believe in drugs so I wasn't able to get any medication for it until I was on my own health insurance plan. Ie, I wasn't prescribed drugs in college but I am now.

Personally, since moving to Canada, I think I need to up my Lexapro dosage. That or blow my brains out with a homemade blow-dryer nail gun in a Tim Horton's bathroom.

Daily exercise and a diet change before taking drugs.

After that if you still need big pharma to keep the job i would seriously reconsider a career change… extremely unhealthy and unsustainable long term

You're talking about taking any medicine in general? You're lost and wrong.

I tried to stay away from prescription meds unless I actually needed them, more times than not supplements have done the trick - but if you truly suffer from ADD/ADHD or panic attacks or some shit please do go get on meds.

For me I developed terrible anxiety around sleep, I remember I would wake up randomly thinking my phone rang and eventually got so stressed out and sleep deprived I was afraid to go to sleep bc I was certain I would die. Idk. Magnesium citrate really is a hack for sleep / relaxation issues, I never used melatonin bc of fear of taking too much but wow is magnesium right before bed great.

I'm cutting weight and see my doctor in 10 days or so and might hop on Metformin to get real lean. I've heard good things.
