Post-MBA Associate Moving to NYC after graduation -- Where to live?

Got a job doing BB IBD and moving to New York this summer, any recommendations on where to live? For context, my office is midtown east and I'm a single guy in my late 20s. I would ideally like to live by myself, but have some friends from business I could potentially room with as well. Expect my all-in comp to be in the $275-$325k range ($150k base) and won't have any debt at graduation (and pretty decent savings).

Any areas you all recommend I should look into and thoughts on what an appropriate price range would be? Does it make sense to try to buy something? I could probably scrape together $200k for a downpayment between myself and my family but not sure if it's worth the headache. Thanks!
