Ppl who got multiple offers, wtf did you say during interviews?

Title says it all. So far 4/12 on interviews and no offers yet. Obvisouly looking to improve upon my interviewing skills but am also curious as I know top talent typically get several offers.

Do you think it was the format of your responses?

Was it the content (meaning you had a great background to speak of)?

Was it your Charm? Combination of all 3?
Also - Do you think anyone, who puts in the work and has a good mentor could achieve this?

Curious what interviews & current bankers opinions on this are as well

My roommate and I both come from a non-target school (SEC Honors College) and were able to secure seven offers between the two of us.

The biggest factors that contributed to our success include:

  • Leveraging upperclassmen who had been through the process, and asked them to do mock interviews + give advice
  • Using tools like ChatGPT/Gemini to generate questions similar to what we could expect to be asked with each team we interviewed with
  • Having strong soft skills (I attribute this to working a number of serving jobs and being in a social fraternity)
  • Differentiating ourselves with unique backgrounds and experiences (we both didn't have any relevant internships)
  • Demonstrating genuine interest through body language and engagement—interviewers can often tell when enthusiasm is authentic versus forced

That said, I don't believe ANYONE can get an offer, no matter how much work they put in. I think there is a brutal 'IQ-pill' that some people will face.

Being charismatic and well-spoken is the biggest differentiating factor imo. I come from a complete non target and was able to get a handful of good offers. I attribute most of it to being good at small talk and being able to shoot the shit with the people interviewing me. Most kids from targets are anti-social weirdos that can’t even hold eye contact or a basic conversation. If you’re able to master small talk, you’ll be in much better shape than those kids ( assuming you know your techs).
