Prestige - Law vs IB
Hi,
is becoming an investment banker comparatively prestigious as becoming a lawyer (holding factors like company etc constant for a moment). I was wondering cause law (at least in Europe) takes on average 7 years + until you become a fully qualified lawyer. In investment banking on the other hand you can make it quite far with just a bachelors degree (correct me if I’m wrong).
Probably equally prestigious
$ = prestige.
Being a banker at Cravath is nowhere near as prestigious as being a lawyer at Morgan Stanley
Therefore I assumed these factors to be constant.
Both indicate an equal amount of risk aversion and lack of creativity cloaked as prestige, sure
Because I'm bored..
I think that these paths are all pretty "prestigious":
top consulting, high finance, medicine, hi-tech (bigCos and top startups), quant finance, big law, top advertising/PR, top media, top sports, top creative (design, writing, architecture etc), politics/government, academia/R&D, high growth entrepreneurship, executive management.
I have as much respect for a WPP Fellow as I do an AC at Bain, as I do an APM at Google, as I do an Architect 1 at Gensler, as I do an IB Analyst at BAML, as I do an Associate at Cleary, as I do a VC-backed Co-Founder... They're all "prestigious".
Probably should’ve known before using a red flag like prestigious. Sure, a servant at mc Donald is worth as much as anybody else.
However, I give a jot on prestige. To me, and that was more the intention of this thread, it always seemed that people whey both professions as equally desirable. And as one requires much less of a theoretical education for IB, I was just wondering ... actually I don’t even know what I was wondering about.
Letting the comparable "prestige" of two completely different careers dictate your actions is foolish.
