"Pure numbers" shops

At my top target, for SA recruiting certain PE firms (Apollo, BX, SL) were known just to take the top 10-12 candidates from the top of the GPA pool, particularly when certain dual-degree programs were involved. Not much was "loosened" for the criteria for FT; almost all of their tiny intern classes returned, and if they left, very similar profile kids were hired. (A slight exception here for the BX advisory/rx side, which was less stringent than the PE side).

For those making the IB -> PE leap, do certain firms, possibly those mentioned above, for being extremely numbers driven in who they target/end up hiring? Obviously, superstars are going to get interviews everywhere, but if Apollo can fill their 2 person class within a day or three from that pool, they might consider "good not great" academic profiles/banks much less so than a MF/upper MM with a bigger class.
