Putting down only major GPA
I want to transfer into econ (my file is currently under review), which I am looking forward to because of my strong math / analytical skills. Just wondering if I'll get away with just putting down my econ major GPA on the CV, and not including life science courses GPA (which is low)? Thanks.
Quite sure this is another question asked ad nauseum on the forums (You should also check out Mergers and Inquisitions website as well). If you do not put your GPA it is apparently assumed that it is horrifically low (i.e. 1.5 or lower). But since you state CV I'm going to guess you are not looking for the American perspective and assumptions may not be the same where you are from. I think the best scenario from the research I've taken in around the net would be to put down only your major gpa if you have professional experience or Graduate level degree GPA that you can list on your CV as well. I would be interested in hearing from people with success stories who left off their cumulative GPA.
Yes, thats what I did. My overall undergrad was 2.3, lol. Did pre-med for 2years which, and didn't go to class.
Put my MSF GPA instead (3.5)
My resume showed I had enormous ambition, so it wasn't a big issue.
My undergrad is ~3 so i dont list it but i list my master's GPA (honors) and haven't had a problem with that so far. Before doing the master's i used to just list my finance GPA; if you can explain your predicament you shouldnt be dinged right away.
Putting your major GPA on your resume only is fine assuming your cumulative is under a 3.0. If your cumulative is above a 3.0, then include both otherwise you run the risk of the recruiter assuming your cumulative is under 3.0
In fact, if your cumulative GPA is bad and your major GPA is bad, don't even include a GPA - if the firms care about GPA, you weren't getting the opportunity by listing it anyway - if, however, they don't have a requirement for GPA, why put a negative on your resume.
What if you did really well in your last two years of undergrad, but not so great the first two years... I'm talking average 2.5 up to 3.7+...
Any thoughts on how to spin it so you only have to put your "graduating" GPA? CGPA wouldn't be bad (low 3's depending) but definitely not as eye catching as a 3.7 or 3.8.
