Question Re: Citi Soph Leaders Program

Hey WSO (first post btw),
Rising sophomore at a target here, planning on applying for this Citi program. Wondering if networking plays any role in the selection process. I know the program mostly takes diversity candidates and I'm not one, so I'm hoping a combination of strong resumé/GPA and networking could be enough to finesse a spot.
Spoke to an IBD analyst there who wasn't too familiar with the program and unsure if referrals are a factor. If any past applicants/participants could shed some light that'd be great.
Cheers.
P.S. This forum has been super helpful in getting a sense for the recruiting process and I've had some great laughs as well-- especially loved the "Banks as Houses of Westeros" thread. Thanks all

Rising Senior who did the program here. I didn't really network with anyone, I just spoke to someone at an OCR event and had one phone call with him afterwards. Kind of threw the app together in the last minute. Maybe it was because of my stats or EC's but I felt that it looked more at the overall profile of the applicant since it's more of a holistic process compared to your normal summer internship.

Also kind of late to be networking (at least quality networking) for it now, so I'd say focus more on networking at a bunch of banks for next year too. Don't waste too much time on it. Apparently this year's class had 5,000 applicants for only 30 spots. Sheesh.
