quick question about networking events

I'm an undergraduate freshman and I attended my first IB panel/networking event today held by a well known boutique bank. I was geared up to ask all the basic informational interview-type questions during the networking session after the panel, but all of the questions were covered in the panel itself. I was under the impression that such questions (how did you move from SA to FT, which groups you interned in, how did you network, etc etc) were meant to be asked during the networking time.

They did mention the groups they were working in, but I really don't have any idea about recent news in that field, so I couldn't really find much to talk about. What kind of questions do you normally ask?

I know there are a lot of threads on this topic as well, but most of them tend to give the advice that one should ask questions about their work, life, etc (things that were already covered in the panel session). I'd appreciate any suggestions/links to threads that might answer my question. Thanks!
