Well, I guess most of them outside of finance do not even know what an investment bank is, so as long as you can say you work on WS there is no big difference.

yeah exactly.  the only investment banks anyone knows are goldman sachs, morgan stanley, and they may view JPM as an i-bank rather than a commercial bank.  even then, their idea of what investment bankers do is play with money and fuck up the economy every decade or so
