Based on the WSO Dataset, the RBC ABS (Asset-Backed Securities) origination team would indeed fall under the broader umbrella of investment banking, specifically within the structured finance sector. Here’s what you need to know:

  1. Exit Opportunities: While the context doesn't provide specific exit opportunities for RBC's ABS origination team, roles in structured finance like ABS origination generally lead to opportunities in areas such as risk management, hedge funds specializing in fixed income, or other investment banking sectors that require a deep understanding of structured products.

  2. Working Hours: The context does not specify the exact working hours for the RBC ABS origination team. However, it mentions that roles in structured finance, like ABS or CLO origination, generally have hours that are less intense than traditional investment banking roles, but still demanding.

  3. Investment Banking Confirmation: Yes, ABS origination is considered a part of investment banking. It involves creating securities that are backed by loan portfolios, including mortgages or other receivables. This is a specialized area within the broader field of investment banking focused on structured finance.

If you're considering this role, it's a good idea to network with current or past team members to get a clearer picture of the work culture and specific opportunities that might arise from working in this team.

Don't know much about the hours, but yes it is IB. They aren't the strongest in the space but they do get right leads on various deals with some left lead mandates here and there. But they're relatively active due to their balance sheet. Exit opps are to other ABS IB teams and ABS AM funds, probably just general structured products too. S&T for structured products is also possible. Haven't seen RBC ABS alum on ABS teams at PE firms, but thats just my experience.
