Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's what you need to know about RBC in Toronto:

Best Teams:

  • RBC M&A: This group is highly recognized and considered one of the top groups in Canada. However, it is known for being very demanding, with junior analysts working significantly more hours compared to other groups.
  • RBC DCM (Debt Capital Markets): This group is noted as a leader in the Canadian market, particularly strong in deal flow.

Worst Teams:

  • General Culture Concerns: RBC has been noted for having a rough culture, with high expectations and long hours. This is consistent across various locations, including Calgary and Houston, and may extend to Toronto as well.

General Insights:

  • Work-Life Balance (WLB): The M&A group, while prestigious, is known for poor work-life balance due to the high workload.
  • Culture: The culture at RBC can be challenging, with reports of high pressure and demanding work environments.

If you are looking for a balance between deal flow and a manageable work-life balance, it might be beneficial to explore other groups within RBC or consider other banks with a better reputation for culture and hours.

M&A, PU&I, to an extent Div have great deal flow and are pretty consistently busy. Tech and Real Estate have pretty good culture. Mining there sucks.

Deal flow's not great (historically done worse than other B5 Mining groups) - key standout negative aspect is culture. Some chill people on the team, other people are toxic as hell (get clowned even at other banks).
