Re-recruiting after return offer
Received a return offer from a low BB (DB/UBS/Barclays) in their top team. Loved the culture, great deal flow, like the sector, but currently contemplating which other graduate programme is worth applying to optimise exit. I think GS/MS/JPM makes sense but the jump to Citi/BofA wouldn’t given 1) uncertainty of group allocation 2) need to build reputation again. Also not sure which EB would be worth it, maybe Evercore & PJT?
the only places you would have a decent shot at are PJT / EVR as they have dedicated grad rec programmes. Top BBs dont unfortunately.
Do they not? Thought so since didn't see much linkedin presence. Yeah PJT usually take a few and seems like Evercore actually take quite a lot of FTs
evercore takes around 10-12 FTs and PJT something like 5-8
.
Well done on the return offer and at a great institution.
Assuming you can find a role to re-recruit to (which another user has commented on), I'd really caution this. If you find a new firm, it's reasonably likely that the best and most interesting teams will prioritise offering places to their own interns (to your point on team selection). A possibly more important point is around culture, which is super easy to take for granted when you have it. Send 30 seconds on this forum and you'll find a user on the verge of quitting over 100+ hour weeks - if you loved the team and it's the top team at any BB, that's a very nice position to be in.
Also, if you re-recruit, you're going to have a rough time explaining why you're doing it, so try to have a good reason. "Prestige" or "Exit opportunities" won't be received well. Possibly it's easier to come up with a story for the EBs (e.g. pure advisory focus, independence, etc.)
This isn't a sort of binary response by the way - if you'd interned at a MM bank for instance, I'd encourage you to re-recruit for the optionality. But honestly I'd be hitting the bar if I were you rather than brushing up the CV.
