Realistic chance for me to get a Summer Analyst Position

Hey monkeys, Longtime lurker here. I was wondering if I should even apply for a summer analyst position at a bank for the summer of 2018. Below is my situation.

I finished high school with my associated degree in economics and I am currently a freshman, with advanced junior credit standing, at UC Berkeley. Since I am a freshman, I have to apply to Haas and Economics this year. My GPA from city college is a 4.0, and I have fulfilled all of the necessary lower division courses that are required to major in business or economics. My EC's consist of founding an academic club, creating the personal finance curriculum at my high school, working as a blogging intern, working a minimum wage job, and being a secretary at a history club. So, not exactly great.

In the upcoming school year, I plan on applying to Haas and economics so I can graduate in two years. In addition, I am seeking a marketing internship so I can build my resume, while joining business related clubs. My class schedule for the fall semester will consist of economic history, calculus based statistics, introduction to business (Berkeley requires me to take this at their campus), business leadership, and marketing. I also have a cousin who is a VP at a BB, so I'll try reaching out to him to see if he can put a good word in for me, but I am not holding my breath because he is in Manhattan and I do not believe that his word would be worth much in California.

With above in mind, I do not believe that I stand a chance for a ib summer analyst position. I read that most of these summer analyst positions are reserved for juniors who have spent their entire time at a university, not a city college. What would allow me to have a chance for a summer analyst position?

Should I try to get a pmw internship? What would make me more competitive for a pwm internship? Also, does location matter for pmw internships?

Thank you in advance and your help is greatly appreciated.

I think as long as you spin your story well, have contacts, and know your stuff (technicals, behavioral, etc) then you should apply. A huge focus on networking, imho, would allow you to have a better chance for a summer analyst position. A lot of the SA applications are already out as firms race against one another to bring in new talent. You can also try to apply to another division and lateral your way into IBD.

Sorry I can't give much insight for your PWM related questions!
