Really low self worth
I’d like to ask a more philosophical question boys.
For reference, I am a first year analyst at a Tier 1 US BB in London. I’d like to think I am doing well at my job, I take very good care of myself physically/health wise. I’d like to think I am above average looks wise, and do reasonably well in the dating market.
However, despite having quite a reasonably amount of looks, money and status for my age (24) I find myself with incredibly low self worth.
When I browse LinkedIn, and see a friend from university who did better at his course than I did, who had an easier upbringing, at a better bank, and is as/better looking etc - i struggle to feel confident in myself.
When I speak with family members / get introduced to a mutual friend I get met with substantial praise. But it’s almost as if this all disappears when I turn on my virtual computer.
A very off topic post - but does anyone else relate to this? Would anyone have any advice ?
Hi there, I would recommend start by trying not to pay too much attention to such feeling, we all have had that feeling at some point in our life unless you're an egotistical psychopath maniac, with this said my humble advice would be start some martial arts training.It can look strange for some but there's a special type of confidence that comes from start learning a new skill from zero, facing challenging situations that boost your adrenaline, get fit and learn how to defend yourself phisically. Even the chemistry in the brain and the neuronal circuits responsable of our moods change after some time. That's a special type of confidence that doesn't come from nowhere else, Brazilian Jiujitsu (BJJ) and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) it's what I would recommend the most, after certain time of continuous and disciplined training you really start to look at yourself in a different way and that confidence spreads to other areas of your life. I'm giving only my humble opinion based in my experience and knowledge of the matter at my reach that's also available publicly. Best wishes
People are as confident as their self standards are reasonable.
There are complete losers (per our definitions) who are “yas queen go queen”-ing themselves everyday. There are also very accomplished HYP BB IBD insecure overachievers who will never feel like they are enough.
I think what will be important for you is taking pride in your accomplishments and acknowledging that, quite honestly, a lot of the good things of which you’re envious may have just come down to luck. At the same time, be grateful for the luck and opportunities that have been afforded to you thus far.

Funny how my girlfriend asked me the same question (about her self worth), and I said 125/hour. Turns out i’m single now
I think one issue with student or career forums is that the projected standards are exceptionally high, some even outright unrealistic.
Compared to real life, everyone who works in finance, has worked in finance, or even is just attending an institution of higher learning - has already achieved a lot.
Look outside, see what the average Joe and Jane are doing for a living. There is nothing wrong with what others do, and not every good job or career track has to be in finance.
But I seriously doubt that there are a lot of people who haven't achieved anything on WSO.
