Recent Grad Career Change

Hi everyone, I've browsed this site for awhile now, but just recently made an account and decided to post. I am interested in possibly pursuing an IBD or PE role and would like some feedback on my thought process/ search methods.

Long story short, I decided early on commit to the accounting/CPA track and go full-time with a Big4 firm in their audit practice. My family has many CPAs and it just seemed like a natural thing for me to do. I've come to the realization that I will never be happy doing audit (who is?), and do not like the idea of becoming a Controller or really being in any sort of accounting-type support role post Big4.

I'm struggling with the idea of leaving only a few months into the job, but also knowing the experience I am getting is not very relevant to my end goals (corporate dev).

I want to start networking and submitting my resume to boutique investment banks in my region (DC, Baltimore, Philly). I recently graduated in May 2016 from a semi-target. I did a dual major in Accounting/Finance and graduated with a 3.9 GPA.

Most jobs that aren't targeted at current undergrad seniors require 1 year of work experience, so I am a little lost on what exactly I should be applying to. Should my academic stats be enough to at least land me an interview at most boutiques in my area? Or do I still need to network my ass off?

Thanks for the response. I've seen that route tossed around a lot here.

Is it a long shot to skip the internal transfers and try to get into a boutique ASAP? I figure the quicker I get out of audit, the better (less chance of being labelled as an "auditor" from a career standpoint).

Edit: Also, my office is only a few hundred people and I do not believe any TAS actually report here for their home office.
